My grandma Catherine Lucchese loved Christmas. It was just another excuse for her to bake, bake, bake! Here is her biscotti recipe that she would bake at Christmastime. I hope it warms your heart the way it did mine!
- 5 cups flour (sifted)
- 3 teaspoons baking powder (sifted)
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon oil of anise
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 sticks butter
- 6 eggs
Cream butter and sugar well.
Add 6 eggs, 1 at a time. Add 1/4 teaspoon of oil of anise and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Sift flour and baking powder together. Add sifted flour mixture gradually. When dough becomes thick, fold in remaining flour by hand. Make loafs- smooth out dough with milk. Bake 20 minutes then check.
