It’s that Lenten time of year where we reflect on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Several non- Catholics are confused as to why we give up something during Lent. Giving up something for Lent is a form of fasting. By depriving ourselves of a small pleasure or indulgence, we can give our attention to God instead. This can be positive since we could “give up” a bad habit such as smoking.
What will you give up? Your daily latte? Pop? Candy? You can also do something for somebody, like helping an elderly neighbor or volunteer at a homeless shelter during Lent. Use this time to remember God in our busy lives.
