- Make sure to eat a lot of veggies, fruits and whole grains. Try to keep your red meat intake low.
- To reduce your risk for breast and colon cancers, make sure to be physically active. Get at least 30 minutes of activity most days of the week.
- Maintain a healthy weight by eating healthy foods and exercising. Being overweight could lead to uterus, colon, rectum or breast cancer.
- QUIT SMOKING! Smoking can lead to not only lung cancer, but also cervix and bladder cancers.
- Try to limit your exposure to second hand smoke.
- Try to limit your alcohol intake. Women shouldn’t have more than one drink a day.
- Cover Up! When out in the sun, make sure to protect your skin by wearing sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
- Be very informed when doing hormone placement therapy (HRT). HPT can heighten your risk of breast cancer.
- Ask your doctor when you should have your health tests and screenings, and make sure to attend.
- Ask your doctor for the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to lower your risk of cervical cancer.
