Cheugy. The word has made its way to TikTok and Instagram, but what exactly is it? According to the New York Times, cheugy (pronounced chew-gee) is not quite “basic” and it’s not quite “uncool.” The term is used to describe someone who is “out of date or trying too hard.” Typically, the word is used by Gen Z to describe millennial women.
So, what isn’t cheugy? According to the New York Times article, things that aren’t cheugy are, “thrifting, making your own clothes, handmade products, Levi’s jeans, Birkenstocks, and home decor not found at Target.”
